The Ecosystem Behind Heimerer Eco-Village
The Heimerer Healthcare and Wellbeing Eco-Village emerges from a well-established ecosystem of healthcare, education, and innovation that has evolved over the past 15 years. Rooted in Kolegji Heimerer, a university of applied sciences specializing in health professions, this ecosystem has organically expanded to include research institutions, healthcare service providers, vocational training programs, and international partnerships, all working in synergy to bridge education, employment, and patient care.
The realization of the Eco-Village is supported by a consortium of leading enterprises in education, research, and healthcare services from Germany, Austria, and Kosovo, ensuring a strong foundation for innovation and excellence. This interconnected network has fostered continuous innovation, enabling the seamless integration of medical education, rehabilitation services, career development, and digital health technologies. The Eco-Village is the next logical step, consolidating these elements into a single, sustainable environment where healthcare professionals, students, researchers, and businesses collaborate to drive excellence in healthcare services, education, and research.
Designed with sustainability at its core, the Eco-Village promotes energy-efficient infrastructure, green spaces, and circular economy principles, ensuring long-term viability. By combining local expertise with global best practices, it will serve as a model for modern healthcare ecosystems, providing cutting-edge medical services, fostering employment opportunities, and strengthening Kosovo’s role in international healthcare innovation.

Sustainable Development Goals the project covers
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being
The Heimerer Healthcare and Wellbeing Eco-Village (HHWEV) aims to expand therapeutic services with new rehabilitation and geriatric care facilities. These services address critical health gaps in Kosovo and the region, enhancing overall health and well-being.
SDG 4: Quality Education
By extending education and training through a centre for Continuing Professional Development and Lifelong Learning , the HHWEV fosters quality education and operationalizes an effective dual system of learning, ensuring ongoing professional development: continuous from Kindergarten up to college and doctoral research.
SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
The project will create over 500 jobs, contributing significantly to economic growth in the Pristina region. Furthermore, close ties with local and international employers ensure alignment with labor market needs, facilitating decent work opportunities.
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
With facilities for innovation, such as the assistive robotics program, and infrastructure supporting health and education, the HHWEV promotes sustainable industrialization in Health-Care and fosters innovation within Kosovo.
SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
The eco-village concept integrates health, education, and commercial services in a sustainable manner, creating a cohesive community that meets the needs of its residents while maintaining environmental and social sustainability.
SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
The project leverages partnerships with international, in particular German-speaking universities and healthcare providers, facilitating knowledge transfer and international collaboration. These partnerships enhance teaching, practice, and program development, contributing to the achievement of multiple SDGs.
